About
Zij Aan Zij is an intimate graduation film by Jet van Fessem (HKU), produced together with Sam Bleijerveld in collaboration with NPO 3LAB and HUMAN. The film portrays the evolving bond between a granddaughter and her grandmother as they navigate a shared grieving process. What begins as a practical task, clearing out a beloved caravan, unfolds into a tender exploration of love, memory, humor, and resilience.
Project Briefing
The aim of this project was to design the opening titles, end credits, and a movie poster for the graduation film Zij Aan Zij. The visual identity needed to reflect the film’s intimate story of a granddaughter and grandmother growing closer during a shared grieving process.
Movie Poster Design + Title design
I designed the titles to subtly set the tone of the film, using typography and pacing that reflect the emotional depth of the story. For the poster, I drew inspiration from the film’s themes of love, loss, and intergenerational connection. The design choices were made to emphasize authenticity and emotion, highlighting the tenderness of the narrative and inviting audiences to engage with the film.
